Pixel Moments

Pixel Moments
The Pixel Moments campaign was a micro-philanthropy project that was initiated to raise awareness on mental health, and combine community-inspired artwork with Augmented Reality (AR) technology.

St. Paul’s Foundation Future Leaders is a committee of professionals (including LNG Studio’s CEO, Leon Ng) who help raise awareness and funds for the St. Paul’s Foundation. Months into the COVID-19 pandemic, the effect on global mental health became undeniable and propelled the Future Leaders to focus on raising awareness of this issue. The Pixel Moments campaign was a micro-philanthropy project that was initiated to raise awareness on mental health, and combine community-inspired artwork with Augmented Reality (AR) technology.
Along with welcoming amazing sponsors, the campaign focused on collecting microdonations to ensure that all income levels and age groups could participate in this community-centered movement. After submitting a donation, the participant could include a selfie or image that had meaning to them regarding mental health. These images became pixels in a large photo-mosaic mural created by local Vancouver artist Andrea Wan, and displayed at the corner of Granville and W. Georgia in downtown Vancouver. With the help of LNG Studios, 8th Wall, and Mythical City Games, a layer of AR was added to the mural to bring it to life.

The campaign collected 1,834 unique pixels and raised just under $300,000 for the St. Paul’s Foundation. This financial support is aimed to alleviate the strain that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the functionality of our hospitals, the staff they rely on, and the patients they treat. While the financial support will have an incredible effect, we also hope that the mural has a strong emotional impact on our community and reminds us that we are not alone.
The response seen throughout the campaign was a strong reminder that no one is impervious to mental health suffering, and LNG Studios was honoured to participate. We would also like to honour everyone who has supported this campaign and gave up their time and energy to bring it to the finish line.
